How Is Fuel Consumption Calculated?

The formula is simple: (distance in km ÷ 100) × average consumption (l/100km) × price per litre. For example, for 200 km at 7 l/100km and 1.45 EUR/l, the cost is 2 × 7 × 1.45 = 20.30 EUR in fuel.

City driving 7–10 l/100km
Motorway 5–8 l/100km
Van / cargo vehicle 8–13 l/100km

How is fuel consumption calculated?
Consumption is calculated as: (distance in km ÷ 100) × average litres per 100 km × price per litre.
What is the average fuel consumption of a car?
Most cars average 5–8 l/100km on the motorway and 7–10 l/100km in city driving. Vans and larger vehicles typically use 8–13 l/100km.
How can I reduce fuel consumption on a trip?
Keep a steady speed, check tyre pressure, avoid unnecessary load, turn off the AC at low speeds, and plan your route in advance.
Is diesel or petrol more cost-effective for long distances?
Diesel engines usually have lower consumption and a lower price per litre, making them more economical for long distances.
